Loreto students gather for Opening School Mass 2024

On Tuesday 24th September, we were delighted to have Fr. Farren celebrate our Mass for the opening of the new school year. We also welcomed Sr. Kathleen Fitzpatrick, the Faith Development Coordinator from the Loreto Educational Trust.

The theme of our Mass was “Love One Another”, and was inspired by the spirituality of  St. Therese of Lisieux.

St. Therese is one of the most popular saints in the modern world . As a French nun, St. Therese lived a hidden, simple life of prayer. She never held a position of power or achieved major status. She just lived each day with extraordinary love. She wrote in her autobiography: “What matters in life is not great deeds, but great love”. Therese lived and taught a spirituality of attending to everyone and everything with great love. “Let us love, since that is what our hearts were made for”.

The rose is the symbol most associated with St. Therese. Primarily, its connection with her comes from a promise she made that, after her death, she would send ‘a shower of roses’ to the earth. It is a fitting icon of her highest ambition – to ‘be Love’.

On this the feast day of St. Therese, we ask for her prayerful intercession in the year ahead.

St. Therese, pray for us!
