Loreto Traditional Group
There has been a very strong tradition of Irish music in Loreto College for many years with up to 25 musicians performing at the annual Spring Concert.
Many of these musicians are County, Ulster and even All Ireland champions in their respective instruments and their talent and willingness to play at many school and community events adds a beautiful texture to the tapestry of our school community.
All Ireland Champions
In 2019 three pupils from Loreto College achieved the accolade of winning or being placed in the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Drogheda. These pupils had won their county and provincial championships before achieving this ultimate success.
Sinead Close from Glenullin, Co. Derry won the All Ireland Under 12 Harp.
Conrad O Coisneachain from Ballycastle won the All Ireland age 15-18 Uillean Pipes
Niamh Mooney from Rasharkin was placed 3rd in the All Ireland age 15-18 Harp.
All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil 2024
Congratulations to Sinéad Close who was awarded 2nd place in the age 15-18 Harp competition in the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Wexford in August 2024. This was an amazing accomplishment in a world class competition with competitors from Ireland, England, Scotland and the USA competing.
Tigh Tara
In 2014 a senior traditional group called Tigh Tara (named after the Loreto Sisters original convent house) was formed to take part in the Gael Linn ‘Siansa’ competition. Since then the evolving group has performed at many school and community events as well as the annual Siansa competition. In 2017, 2019 and 2022, the group qualified for the All Ireland Siansa final and represented Loreto on the stage of the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
