05/04/2007 INSIGHT INTO PARAMEDIC LIFE FOR LORETO COLLEGE STUDENTS

A group of Year 11 Biology students received a vital insight into the application of their academic knowledge this week when they received a “Day in the Life of a Paramedic” presentation.

Members of the Coleraine and Belfast Ambulance Service, John McPoland and Gerald Quinn, visited Loreto College on the morning of Wednesday 5th November for the hour-long workshop.  The session was an interactive, hands-on experience for the students, with a variety of scenarios being explored through role-play.  For some, the highlight came at the end of the workshop, with the opportunity to climb on board the ambulance, complete with a lesson on the operation of lights and sirens.

Head of Biology Mrs Geraldine Doherty paid tribute to the visiting speakers for their expertise in demonstrating how Biology may be put into practice in the wider world – often to life-saving effect.
