03/04/2007 SUCCESS FOR LORETO COLLEGE HURDLER

A Year 10 student from Loreto College Coleraine has continued her winning ways in her chosen sport of hurdling recently.

Emma Doherty took the bronze medal in the Under 15 60 metres hurdles event at the Northern Ireland Indoor Athletics event, held at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast in late February.  As a result of this success, she qualified for the All-Ireland finals which were held in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary at the end of March.  At this event, Emma was unfortunately injured during her heat. Despite this setback, she still qualified for the final; however, her injury proved too severe for her to be able to compete in the showcase race.

A native of Greysteel, Emma trains at City of Derry Athletics club, where she has been coached by Tony Robinson for over a year.  This promising young talent has also excelled at sport during her years at Loreto College.

Emma was congratulated on her achievements, and wished even greater success in the future, by Mrs Maureen McCullough, Head of PE, and Mr Brian Lenehan, College Principal, on behalf of all the staff and students of the College.
