Representatives of three different charities attended a special Assembly at Loreto College Coleraine recently, at which they were presented with generous donations from money raised by students from Year 8-10 at the school.

Through the course of the school year so far, the Junior students of Loreto College took part in a number of fund-raising initiatives, raising an impressive total of £3888.58 for some of the College’s designated charities.  All Year 8 and Year 9 students took part in a Sponsored Spell exercise, while all Year 10 students participated in Sponsored Circuit Training.  The money raised was divided among four charities, with £1000 going to the Children in the Crossfire cause, £1000 to the United Christian Aid Moldova Appeal, £1500 to the Loreto School being established in Sudan, and £388.58 to the Northern Ireland Hospice.

At the special Assembly during the final week of March, Children in the Crossfire was represented by Mr Frank Diamond, while Mr Sean O’Conail represented United Christian Aid, and Sr Anne McLaughlin represented the Loreto Community in Coleraine, which supports the wider international Loreto Community worldwide.  The cheques were presented by representatives of the Junior school: Dearbhaile McCotter (Y10), Nicky McKeague (Y9) and Niall McMahon (Y8).

Tribute was paid to the students for their generosity and commitment by all three visiting speakers, by Miss Belinda Toner, Social Justice co-ordinator and by Mr Brian Lenehan, College Principal.
