Y10 students who took top prizes in recent Art & Design competitions

A number of Junior Art and Design students from Loreto College Coleraine have gained notable successes in some local and national competitions recently.

Three groups of Year 10 students worked together in preparation for a competition run by Coleraine Borough Council to illustrate the dangers of smoking.  The students planned and produced a life-size figure of a pregnant woman, entitled “Nicotina and baby Tara”.  The project was awarded first prize in the competition and is currently on display in the Diamond Centre, Coleraine.

One of the students involved in this project had a double success.  In addition to helping to create the model for the Coleraine Borough Council competition, she also had an individual success in a Gender Equality competition held by the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.  Claire’s winning artwork has been reproduced in posters for the Equality Commission.

The students and their teacher, Miss Michelle McGarvey, were congratulated on these impressive achievements by Mr Paul Cunning, Head of Art and Design at Loreto, and Mr Brian Lenehan, College Principal.
