25/10/2016 LORETO COLLEGE STUDENTS RECEIVE ‘OLA’ CERTIFICATES

Over eighty Year 11 students from Loreto College Coleraine have been presented with CCEA ‘OLA’ Level 1 certificates representing work completed in French during their Year 10 year.

OLA is the Online Language Assessment recognition scheme run by CCEA. The scheme provides students with short-term language-learning goals and formally recognises their achievement in a range of increasingly demanding levels.  The OLA French course provides students with a sound basis for further study, building on the knowledge, skills and understanding acquired through initial language learning and using a series of short, manageable and clearly defined steps to help them reach the GCSE threshold. By offering a series of short-term accessible goals, OLA enhances the student’s self-esteem and self-confidence, enabling them to be successful within the framework of a publicly recognised and accredited examinations system.

Mrs Siobhan Mullan, Head of French at Loreto College, commended the Year 11 students on their enthusiastic participation in the ‘OLA’ programme.  In particular, Mrs Mullan congratulated the students who attained the highest marks in the centre in the qualification, Cara McTaggart and Orla Mullan.   Mr Michael James, College Principal, paid tribute to the school’s French Department who had assisted the students in the preparation for the qualification.
