23/06/2016 SPORTS AWARDS DISTRIBUTED AT LORETO COLLEGE ASSEMBLY

Junior Sports Awards were distributed at Loreto College Assembly on Thursday 23rd June, as the academic year drew towards its conclusion.

Marking, respectively, achievement at Loreto College’s Sports Day and at the Year 8 Swimming Gala, the awards for the Athletes and Swimmers of the Year went to: Alana Burns and Cathaoir Coyle (Year 8 Athletes of the Year), Tolulope Jide-Ojo and Aaron Wallace (Year 9 Athletes of the Year), and Chloe Donaghy and Dennis Bondarenko (Year 10 Athletes of the Year), while the Year 11 Athletes of the Year were Niamh Carr and Owen Tsang.  The Year 8 Swimmers of the Year were Shannon Baird and Oisin Phelan.
 
Five Star Athlete Awards were presented to students from Years 8-11 who had shown proficiency in a range of Athletics disciplines during their PE classes and during extra-curricular Athletics training.  A total of 18 students  received this award.  In Year 8, the Five Star Athletes were Alana Burns, Jodie Canning, Erin McLaughlin and Cahir Coyle, while in Year 9 Five Star Awards went to Tolulope Jide-Ojo and Emmett Morrison.  There was great success at Year 10, with eight awards, to Ellie McBroom, Annie Levy, Annie Wells, Chloe Donaghy, Paul Rafferty, Oisin T Doherty, Cathal Bradley and Donal O’Kane.  Finally, the Five Star Athletes in Year 11 were Niamh Carr, Conor Moore, Adam Purvis and Danny Burns.

To conclude the Sports Prizegiving, the Junior Netball team, who finished in the runner-up position in the Coleraine and District League, received their medals and were congratulated on an excellent season.

Mrs Maureen McCullough, Head of Physical Education at Loreto College, congratulated all the Award recipients and Mr Michael James, College Principal, urged all students to get involved in extra-curricular sport when school resumes in the Autumn Term.
