15/06/2016 YOUNG INNOVATORS AWARD FOR LORETO COLLEGE STUDENT

A Year 14 student from Loreto College Coleraine has been named runner up in the Senior section of the 2016 Sentinus Young Innovators competition.
 
Daniel White, who is completing A Level examinations at present with a view to studying Physics at University, completed a project entitled 'Water Film Motors' and investigated the effect of electric fields and current on thin layers of soapy water.

Sentinus Young Innovators, incorporating the Big Bang Northern Ireland, is one of the largest events of its kind in the UK, celebrating the achievements of young people in STEM.  The event aims to promote interest and engagement in the STEM subjects, and at its centre is an exhibition of innovative and exciting project work carried out by students from schools throughout Ireland.

Daniel was the runner up in his category: Senior Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences, and was presented with his award at Ulster University, Jordanstown on Monday 13th June.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, paid tribute to Daniel for his hard work, initiative and dedication, and to his Physics teachers Mrs Maeve Close and Mrs Katrina Brolly along with former Loreto teacher Mr Brian McKenna for their support of Daniel in his ambitious project.
