26/02/2007 TOP SCIENCE HONOUR FOR LORETO COLLEGE STUDENT

A Year 12 student at Loreto College Coleraine has taken a top award at UK level in a highly prestigious Science Fair.

Stephanie Paul took second place in the Silver Award category for Science at the British Academy Science Fair, held in London on Friday 23rd February.  Among her prizes, Stephanie brought home a trophy, an iPod Nano and a generous cash award for the Loreto College Science Department.

In June 2006, Stephanie had already taken top honours in Northern Ireland at the Seagate Young Innovators’ competition.  Stephanie’s project was entitled “In a Twist: The Physics of Twisting Elastics”.  In the course of her research, Stephanie discovered two Laws of her own: Paul’s First and Second Law.  In London, she was unique in the Silver Award category in presenting an individual as opposed to a group project, making her tremendous achievement all the more impressive.

Stephanie and her teacher, Loreto Head of Technology Mr Brian McKenna, were congratulated on this impressive success on behalf of all the staff and students of Loreto by Mr Brian Lenehan, College Principal.
