15/03/2016 LORETO COLLEGE EMBARKS ON SHARED EDUCATION PROJECTS

Students and staff at Loreto College Coleraine will be participating in a number of Shared Education projects with colleagues from Coleraine Grammar School and St Joseph’s College Coleraine in the months ahead.

A wide range of projects which will see students and staff from the three schools working together to bridge gaps include literacy and numeracy mentoring, with Sixth Form students working with Junior students from partner schools to enhance attainment and confidence in English and Mathematics.

One project has seen Year 11 Art students working together, with each partner school hosting a workshop delivered by an invited artist specialising in a particular field. The first work shop took place on 1st March in Loreto College, and was delivered by Ellen Bell on the topic of Photoshop. Pending workshops include printmaking and a session with Artist Annette Hennessy, with students from the partner schools attending the workshops together.

A Level students of Government and Politics from Loreto College and Coleraine Grammar School recently undertook a series of joint lessons and a joint trip to the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont.  These collaborative sessions combined key elements of the AS Level Government and Politics course with an opportunity for partnership and discussion in the classroom, as well as a shared experience for both Year 13 classes in visiting Stormont.

In the months ahead, collaboration will continue between the partner, neighbouring schools with the intention of enriching the learning and teaching experience for both students and staff.
