09/02/2016 DELIGHT FOR LORETO SWIMMERS AT SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT

Two talented young swimmers from Loreto College won medals at the Ulster Schools Swimming Championship in Ballymena in early February.

Finn McEwan, a Year 11 student at Loreto College, won Silver in the Ulster Schools’ Under 16 breaststroke event, swimming against Year 12 as well as Year 11 contestants.  Finn, who trains at provincial level and has set a new Club record at Coleraine Swimming Club recently, is certainly a talent to watch in the seasons ahead.

Shannon Baird, a Year 8 student at Loreto College, won Gold in the Year 8 breaststroke and freestyle events.  At age 12, Shannon was also swimming the 100m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle in the 11-14 age group, and  was the only 12 year old to qualify for the finals of both events.  Shannon managed to finish 5th in both events, setting two new personal best times.

Both Finn and Shannon were congratulated on these superb performances by Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, on behalf of all the staff and students of the College.
