18/11/2015 LORETO ECONOMISTS TRIUMPH IN REGIONAL COMPETITION ROUND

A team of young Economists from Loreto College Coleraine has represented their school with distinction in the Northern Ireland round of the Bank of England Interest Rate 2.0 competition. Target Two Point Zero invites teams of 16-18 year old students to take on the role of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee. Each team assesses the state of the economy and the outlook for inflation, and then sets the interest rate to meet the Government's inflation target. It will present its analysis and its decision to a panel of Bank of England judges.

For the tenth time in thirteen successive years, Loreto College, represented by Year 13 students Cariosa O’Harte, Maggie McBride, Cormac McCarry and Kate McLaughlin, won the Northern Ireland heat, and will now progress to the Area Finals of the Bank of England Target 2.0 Interest Rate Challenge.  The Loreto team performed with distinction at the event, earning high praise from the adjudicators, in what was described as an intensely competitive round with exceptionally high standards.

Loreto College Principal, Mr Michael James, congratulated the team and Vice Principal and Economics teacher Miss Belinda Toner, who guided the students through the competition, on their talent, dedication and success.
