26/03/2015 YOUTH MUSIC THEATRE SUCCESS FOR LORETO COLLEGE STUDENT

A student from Loreto College Coleraine has won a coveted place in an annual Youth Music Theatre UK Summer production.

Pearse Donaghy, who is in Year 11 at Loreto College, took part in a rigorous audition process recently, and, having been told he was among the highest scoring auditionees in the Belfast session, was awarded a place in the production of Gulliver’s Travels which will be performed in the Lyric Theatre, Belfast between 30th July and 1st August this year.  In advance of the performances, Pearse will attend rehearsals and an intensive residential, where he will have the opportunity to work with other talented young actors and musicians from across Northern Ireland, as well as with top directors and coaches and world-famous musician Duke Special, who has been commissioned to compose the music for the show.

Youth Music Theatre UK has been described as the leading music theatre company for young people aged 11-21. The company aims to provide high-quality training to talented young performers, musicians, directors, writers, composers, choreographers and theatre technicians, producing vibrant and innovative original works in the UK’s top venues and festivals.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated Pearse on the wonderful achievement of being selected to perform at this high level, wishing him every success in a very exciting project.  Pearse is no stranger to performing, having recently taken leading parts in local youth theatre productions: he is clearly a talent to watch for in the years ahead!
