25/03/2015 LORETO COLLEGE FLAMES LEADERS ASSIST WITH YEAR 10 GAELIC TRAINING

The Loreto College Sports Captains, Catherine McNicholl and Frank Dillon, have been helping with Year 10 curriculum Gaelic as part of their role as Flames Leaders.

The Flames programme is part of an initiative by the British Heart Foundation and London 2012 legacy to get young people physically active for 60 minutes per day. After taking part in the Flames training our Y14 pupils (Flames Leaders) have been helping PE teacher Ms J Wilson in class for some activities.

The aims of the Flames project are to:
• inspire, motivate and enthuse young people to be more active
• increase physical activity levels of children and young people
• establish a sustainable legacy for physical activity across the UK.

Head of PE Mrs M McCullough and PE teacher Ms J Wilson report that all of the Loreto Flames Leaders have been wonderful role models for the junior pupils. This is part of the PE department mentoring scheme and has proved very useful for Year 14 pupils who are considering teaching as a profession.
