20/03/2015 ANNIVERSARY GALA BALL RAISES FUNDS FOR LORETO COLLEGE BUILDING PROJECT

The Friends of Loreto College, a group representing parents of current students, current and retired members of staff, former students of the College as well as parents of former students, held a special event on Saturday 14th March to raise funds for a very special project, which will greatly benefit current and future Loreto students.

Under the heading of: ‘Reuniting old friends, making new friends and developing connections’, the Loreto 85th Anniversary Gala Ball, on Saturday 14th March in The Tullyglass Hotel, Ballymena, was an opportunity for approximately 600 people with close connections to Loreto College – former students, parents of current and former students, and current and former members of staff – to come together to celebrate Loreto College and help raise funds for the College’s future.  The event, along with many generous donations received, exceeded all fundraising expectations, and will be of direct benefit in the regeneration of a very special and unique asset which has now been passed to the school - the beautiful Loreto Convent and Chapel building itself. Current pupils will benefit directly from the new facilities and the Anniversary Ball was an ideal opportunity to help with the cause.

The Anniversary Gala Ball included performances by the current Loreto College Traditional Group, Tigh Tara, and singer Cahir McLaughlin, showcasing the immense talent among current Loreto students.  There was also a performance by the Glenullin Set Dancers, many of whom are current Loreto students, as well as an auction and a raffle, for which generous prizes had been donated by Friends of the College.

Those wishing to contribute to the Friends of Loreto fundraising can still do so through contacting the College directly, either on 028 70343611 or by post c/o The Friends of Loreto, Castlerock Road, Coleraine BT51 3JZ.  Further details may also be found on the Friend of Loreto Facebook page. The Friends of Loreto will also be running an Open Day event in the Convent Building in early June 2015.

It is hoped that the regenerated Convent building will create spaces for pastoral care, learning support, quiet study and reflection as well, potentially, as two classrooms and perhaps a sixth form centre.  With the opportunity to restore a very special and historical building, which has tremendous sentimental value for everyone connected with the College, a memorable evening at the Anniversary Gala Ball heralds exciting times at Loreto College.
