11/03/2015 LORETO RUNNER EARNS IRELAND VEST

Loreto College had a good day’s competition at the All Ireland Schools’ Cross Country Finals, held at Clongowes Wood on Saturday 7th March.  For the second consecutive year, a Loreto runner has qualified to represent Ireland in the Junior section of the event.

Niamh Carr (Year 10) had a fantastic run, taking sixth place in the Junior race, winning a medal and qualifying to represent Ireland against top runners from England, Scotland and Wales.

In the Intermediate race, Abigail McBroom (Year 11) was the first Ulster girl home, finishing in fourteenth place.  Abigail has another year to run in the Intermediate age group; Loreto’s Cross Country coach Mr Paul Cunning commented that with Niamh Carr, Molly Brennan (currently injured) and Anna Morrison, who finished strongly down the field, the College should be in with a promising chance in the Intermediate team event in 2016.

In the Minor race, Ellie McBroom finished in fiftieth place – no mean feat in a field of over 100 runners.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated all those who had represented the College with such distinction in this highly prestigious event.
