Three young public speakers from Loreto College Coleraine have taken top honours at the annual Road Safety Public Speaking competition.

At the Coleraine heat of the competition, held in the Coleraine Borough Council offices in early December, Loreto students were dominant among the prizewinners.

In Class A, Orlagh Mailey (Year 10) took first place, with Therese Doherty (Year 10) taking second place, while in Class B, Elizabeth Lane (Year 11) took first place.  In Class C, the winner was Aoife McNicholl (Year 12), with Christine McClements (Year 13) in second place.

A week later, Orlagh Mailey, Elizabeth Lane and Aoife McNicholl went on to represent the Coleraine area in the Northern Ireland Final, held in Stranmillis College Belfast.  At this event, Elizabeth Lane took first place in Northern Ireland in Class B, with an outstanding speech on the distractions to drivers of GPS satellite systems.

All the successful speakers from Loreto  were congratulated by Public Speaking Co-ordinator Mrs Siobhan Mullan and College Principal Mr Brian Lenehan on their tremendous achievements, on behalf of all the staff and students of Loreto College.
