25/02/2015 LORETO WIN THROUGH TO ALL IRELAND CROSS COUNTRY FINALS

Loreto College had a successful day at the Ulster Cross Country Finals on 24th February, with the Intermediate Girls team taking third place and qualifying for the All Ireland Finals.

The Intermediate Girls team, Aoife Carr, Abigail McBroom and Anna Morrison will represent Ulster and Loreto at the All Ireland Final at Clongowes Wood on 7th March.  First home in the team was Abigail McBroom, in fifth place, with the combined performance of the three girls earning the team an impressing 91 points.  The girls will represent Loreto at the All Ireland Finals for the second consecutive year, having been crowned Junior Champions in 2014.

Among younger Loreto competitors there also were some excellent performances. Niamh Carr had a brilliant race, achieving third place in Ulster at Junior level, while Ellie McBroom was thirteenth in the Minor Girls race and Caleb Wan had a very good run in the Minor Boys race, finishing strongly half-way down the field.  Tolulope Jide-Ojo had an excellent run in the Year 8 Girls race, securing a very respectable thirty-second place in a big field of 125 athletes.

Mr Paul Cunning, Cross Country Running Co-ordinator at Loreto College, paid tribute to all the students on their dedicated training and superb performances on the day.  Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated the students and Mr Cunning on a tremendous day’s competition, wishing the Intermediate Girls well for the All Ireland Final.
