‘Reuniting old friends, making new friends and developing connections’

The Friends of Loreto College, a group representing the former students, current and retired members of staff and parents of current and former students of the College, is holding a special event next month to raise funds for a very special project.

The Loreto 85th Anniversary Ball will take place on Saturday 14th March in The Tullyglass Hotel, Ballymena. The Ball is a night for everyone. It is not a reunion and it is not limited to past pupils: it is for everyone who has an interest in Loreto College Coleraine. With many former students planning to attend, the Friends of Loreto are also very keen to welcome parents of current pupils as the event’s fundraising will go directly into upgrading a very special and unique asset which has now been passed to the school - the beautiful Loreto Convent and Chapel building itself. Current and future Loreto students will benefit directly from the new facilities and the Anniversary Ball is an ideal opportunity to help with the cause.

The Management and Board of Governors of Loreto College have been offered the Convent and Chapel and hope to integrate it into the College itself. The Management and Board of Governors recognise and want to be true to the unique ambiance of the building, its tranquility and its sense of being a special place – something which holds a special place in the memories of many former Loreto students.

The Friends of Loreto intend to use the funds raised at the Loreto 85th Anniversary Ball to fund the refurbishment of the old convent into a Pastoral Care and Learning Support Centre, and, depending on the funds raised, perhaps also a Sixth Form Common Room.  This would make the building a fantastic well-being centre for all Loreto College’s current and future pupils. It is hoped that former students will also be able to use the newly refurbished space for events or training, with the possibility of offering the space for external use at weekends or in the evenings.

Ambitions and plans are exciting among the Friends of Loreto and the Governors and Staff of the College.  Those wishing to support the project should purchase tickets for the Anniversary Ball.  To book tickets, friends of the College should contact Pauline Dougan at Loreto College, either on 02870343611 or by post c/o The Friends of Loreto, Castlerock Road, Coleraine BT51 3JZ, stating the number of tickets required.  Tickets cost £50 each with tables each seating ten; those wishing to secure a table can do so for £500.  The dress code is black tie, and there will be raffles, entertainment and a very special auction on the night.

With an exciting social event in prospect and the possibility of helping to restore a very special and historical building which has tremendous sentimental value for everyone connected with Loreto College, those wishing to get involved in this unique fundraising event should not hesitate to get in touch!
