A student from Loreto College has won through to the Northern Ireland Final of the Soroptimist International Youth Public Speaking competition.

Rhianna Gardiner (Year 13) took first place in the Regional heat of the competition, held in the Lodge Hotel, Coleraine on Wednesday 12th November.  Rhianna spoke for 6 minutes on “Sugar is the new tobacco.” The Northern Ireland Final, which will be Rhianna’s next challenge, will be held on 7th February in Hillsborough.   Representing the Coleraine area in the Soroptimist International youth Award Public speaking competition, Rhianna will have to deliver her speech again and then give an impromptu speech of 1-2 minutes chosen by the judges on the day.

On the night, Loreto College was also represented by Rachel Wilkinson, speaking on the topic of ‘Apprenticeship or Degree’.

Mrs Siobhan Mullan, Co-ordinator of Public Speaking at Loreto College, paid tribute to Rhianna for her excellent speech and outstanding delivery, wishing her every success in the Northern Ireland Final of this prestigious competition.
