The Loreto College group which will spend 5 days in Beijing at Half Term

On Thursday 30th October a group of 44 Loreto College students, led by Mr L Shaw and accompanied by 4 teachers, returned to Coleraine after an unforgettable excursion to Beijing, China.  The trip, centred in the Loreto College Geography Department, had taken 18 months to plan and both students and staff were very excited to be embarking on such a wonderful adventure.

Their journey took the Loreto group from Dublin to Dubai and then to Beijing, where they spent five packed days seeing the sights and sounds of this cultural city.  Tours included walking on the Great Wall, as well as visits to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Ming Tombs.  Students also had the chance to travel on the rickshaws through the Hutongs as well as visiting the Olympic stadium (Bird’s Nest Stadium) and Water Cube.  No trip to this amazing city would not be complete without a visit to the world famous Beijing Zoo, where the students were able to see the famous Pandas up close.  A highlight for many of the students was  tasting the authentic Chinese cuisine, and practising their bartering skills at the local markets as well as experiencing the local culture through the organised shows and fireworks displays.

This proved to be the trip of a lifetime for the 44 students and five teachers, who described it as ‘amazing’, ‘unforgettable’ and ‘incredible’. Mr Liam Shaw, who organised the trip, paid tribute to his colleagues and the Loreto students for making the whole experience so memorable and successful.
