The report of the Review of Post-Primary Education in the Coleraine and Portstewart area was published this week, and now enters a consultation period.

In order to ensure the continued high standards of educational provision within the Coleraine and Portstewart area, the trustees of St Joseph’s College, Loreto College and Dominican College are recommending a series of proposals for consultation with parents, staff and Boards of Governors.

The Trustees of Loreto College propose to increase the enrolment number to a minimum of 1100 pupils with a proportionate increase in the admissions number. This will allow for the admission of the pupils of St Joseph’s College Coleraine who may wish to transfer and for a greater number of pupils to enter at Year 8. Infrastructure additions / alterations will be needed to provide for the increased numbers of pupils. Loreto College will continue to be able to deliver the Entitlement Framework of 24 subjects at Key Stage 4 and 27 subjects at Post-16, meeting the needs of pupils of all abilities.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, commented:

“I welcome the opportunity presented by the Trustees’ proposal, which envisages an expansion of Loreto College’s existing provision in terms of both numbers and curriculum offer. I am confident that, when this plan is successfully delivered, parents and pupils will have access to the highest quality education in modern, state-of-the-art facilities, without the need for a transfer test. We welcome the opportunity to consult the community on this very positive development for the College, and encourage all stakeholders to respond.”

Anyone who wishes to respond may do so during the Consultation period, by Wednesday 25th June 2014. Responses may be emailed to loreto.consultation@coleraine.demon.co.uk or sent by post to Loreto Consultation, Loreto College, Castlerock Road, Coleraine, BT51 3JZ.
