The first Student Council has been set up in recent weeks at Loreto College Coleraine.  Following elections among the student population, two representatives were selected for each Year group from Years 9-14, along with the Head Boy and Head Girl.

Loreto Citizenship Co-ordinator Miss Sinead McCallan explained:

“Loreto Student Council is made up of a group of students who have been elected to represent their year groups and to act as the official voice of all students.  The student council will discuss and decide on things that matter to the students and will benefit the school as a whole.

“Citizenship is now included in the school curriculum and the best way to learn about citizenship is by doing it.  The Loreto student council will give students the opportunity to become active citizens of the school community and experience citizenship for themselves.

The student council is a forum which will bring about positive change which will benefit everyone.”

The Student Council members for 2006-2007 are as follows:
Chair – Stephen Friel (Y14)
