12/12/2013 LORETO COLLEGE CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WITH CAROL CONCERT

The feast of Christmas was marked in Loreto College Coleraine with the annual Evening of Christmas Music, organised by the College’s Music Department, and held in the College Hall on the evening of Thursday 12th December.

The Evening of Christmas Music featured some dramatic , thought-provoking readings and reflections, performed by Rosanna McAleese, Emma Crossley, Eve Gardiner and Ben Levy.  There was also a range of performances by the Senior and Junior Choirs, under the direction of Choirmaster Mr Howard Gillespie, School Orchestra, conducted by Head of Music Miss Roisin Stewart, and several small vocal ensembles drawn from the members of both choirs, all skilfully accompanied by pianists Ben Levy and Rachel Kelly.

Memorable seasonal vocal solos were performed by Jamie McGuinness, Caitlin Martin, Flynn Faith-Crothers and Roisin McMurrough, Sarah Jayne McGill, Niamh Cunning, Victoria Tsang and Anna Morrison.  The evening concluded with a stunning rendition of O Holy Night by the combined Senior and Junior Choirs, with soloist Rebecca Kealey.

The Christmas concert provided a peaceful interlude of reflection in the busy preparation period for the Christmas festivities. Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, paid tribute to all those involved in preparing the Carol Services, in particular to the Music department, and to all the staff and students who put so much time and effort into the creation of such an uplifting and reflective evening.
