Two students who have just completed their studies at Loreto College Coleraine were delighted to learn this week that they had been placed in the top ten achievers in the UK in  A level English Language.

The students, Kerri Martin and Caoimhe McCotter, both held distinguished academic records throughout their seven years at the Castlerock Road school.  Kerri, from Dunloy, has been offered a place at Queen’s University Belfast to read Law, while Caoimhe, from Kilrea, will soon be reading Finance at Queen’s University Belfast.

Both students along with their teachers, Mr J O’Kane, Vice Principal, and Mrs F Pepin, were congratulated on this tremendous and exceptional achievement by Mr Brian Lenehan, Principal of Loreto College.  Head of English Mrs C Little attributed the students’ success to their hard work and academic enthusiasm, adding that it was extremely encouraging for the College’s English Department to achieve such success in an A level subject which had been part of the Loreto curriculum for a mere six years.  Mrs Little added that the achievement was all the more exciting because it was the second consecutive year in which the Loreto English Department had had two students placed in the UK Top Ten in this subject.  This achievement comes amid consistently excellent results for the Department, with 54% of students gaining grade A in English Language A level, and 33% gaining grade A in A level English Literature.
