A past pupil and a current sixth former of Loreto College Coleraine were delighted to learn this week that they were to be presented with prestigious awards by the Northern Ireland examinations board, CCEA.

Anne Marie McNicholl, who completed her A level studies at Loreto last summer and is now embarking on a university course, attained second place in Northern Ireland in A level Economics. Anne Marie attained three grade A’s in her A level examinations, and during her time in sixth form represented Loreto in Economics in the highly regarded Bank of England Target Two Point Zero competition.

At GCSE level, meanwhile, Katherine Donnelly took joint second place in Irish. This superb achievement is all the more impressive considering that Katherine was also placed among the top five students in the UK to sit the AQA Specification A French GCSE examination.

The two students, both of whom had won numerous awards for their academic success and for their contribution to the life of the College at the recent Senior Prizegiving, were congratulated by Loreto Principal Mr Brian Lenehan on these notable achievements. Mr Lenehan also paid tribute to the members of staff at Loreto College who had contributed to the girls’ success.
