A team of three young artists from Loreto College Coleraine has been selected to represent Derry in the All-Ireland Final of the Coca Cola Form & Fusion Design Awards competition.

Team members Ryan Hasson (Year 14), Rosanna Jack and Maria Ward (both Year 12) impressed the adjudicators at the regional competition held over two days in the Ulster Hall, Belfast recently. Along with their teacher, Miss Michelle McGarvey, the students were commended highly by the judges and selected among the top 35 entries in Ireland, from a starting field of several thousand competitors.

The students designed a costume based on the idea of Artificial Intelligence corrupting todayís society. This inventive design was constructed from recycled materials including old TVís, electric circuits and a variety of other unusual materials. The costume is displayed in a piece of performance art incorporating more traditional forms such as ballet.

The trio will perform to an audience of thousands at the Point Depot on Friday 13th May. At the finals, the students will benefit from a series of beneficial workshops and the opportunity to exchange ideas with talented students from throughout Ireland. With generous cash prizes at stake, everyone at Loreto has joined with College Principal Mr Brian Lenehan and Head of Art & Design Mr Paul Cunning in wishing the students every success in this prestigious event.
