As always, the month of March has been a busy one for the members of the Loreto College Senior Choir. The group of over forty students, under the baton of conductor Mr Howard Gillespie, has been working hard to complete a busy schedule of competitions and concerts.

A high point for the Castlerock Road school’s talented singers came at the Coleraine International Choral Festival, in which they took first place in the Youth section. A week later, competing in the Whitla Hall, Belfast, the choir were named runners-up in the North Eastern Education and Library Board heat of the UTV School Choir of the Year competition.

Following only the shortest of breaks from a packed rehearsal schedule, the choir is now preparing for the Bangor International Choral Festival to be held in April, and for a recital at the Loreto College Spring Concert, also next month. The choir is also busy recording and preparing to launch a CD of its extensive repertoire.

The choir members, along with piano accompanists Grace McMacken and Kathryn Stelfox (both Year 14 students), as well as conductor Mr Howard Gillespie were commended highly by Mr Brian Lenehan, Principal of Loreto College, on their inimitable contribution to the life of the College and their outstanding representation of the school in the wider community.
