Loreto's winner of the Rotary Youth Leadership Development Award

A student from Loreto College Coleraine has won through the local and regional heats of the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Development competition and will be among those representing Ireland in Strasbourg later this year.

Jack McCann, who is in Year 13 at Loreto College, took first place in the local heat of the competition, held in Coleraine last week.  He then represented the local area in the regional heat in Enniskillen on Monday 14th November, and was selected as one of the three regional winners who will attend the Euroscola event in the European Parliament, Strasbourg, later in the year.  Jack will also have the opportunity to take part in youth debates in Stormont and in the Dail with his fellow youth leaders in preparation for the Strasbourg event.

No stranger to success, Jack is well known in Loreto College as the winner of numerous prestigious awards at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition, the NI Young Innovators Science Fair and the ISEF Science Fair held in Los Angeles last spring.  Jack has a busy and exciting schedule ahead: he is also one of three Loreto College students who will represent Northern Ireland at the annual Big Bang Science and Technology Exhibition in Birmingham early in 2012.  An accomplished speaker as well as an expert scientist, Jack is also a member of the Senior Debating team from Loreto College which was recently awarded a Commendation in the Northern Ireland Schools vs Chairs Forum competition.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated Jack on this highly impressive achievement, commending him on his enthusiasm, hard work and leadership skills as well as his absolute determination to succeed.
