11/10/2011 OUT OF AFRICA MISSION NETBALL TEAM VISIT LORETO COLLEGE COLERAINE

A netball team from the Out of Africa Mission spent a day with the students of Loreto College Coleraine on Wednesday 5th October, culminating in a lively match against Loreto’s Senior Netball team.

Funds for the team’s visit had been raised by Loreto College students on the annual Sports Day in June 2011 as well as through special ‘non-uniform’ Physical Education lessons during September.  The team-members spent a day experiencing life at Loreto College, going to classes with their partner students, before taking them on in a netball match as the school day drew to a close.  During the course of the day, the South African visitors sang their National Anthem at the College’s Senior Assembly, and presented all the girls with whom they were partnered with a South African flag pin.

When the netball match took place, the visitors defeated their new friends by a spirited margin of 22-16.  Their Loreto College counterparts thoroughly enjoyed spending a day with the visiting team and were impressed and inspired by their athleticism in their afternoon fixture.

Mrs Maureen McCullough, Head of PE at Loreto College, paid tribute to the Out of Africa Missions team and their leaders, as well as thanking the members of the Loreto Netball team for their enthusiastic participation in the day’s activities.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, commented that the school, as part of a worldwide Loreto educational network, was defined by an outward-looking attitude of international diversity, and that it had been both pleasure and privilege to welcome the South African team to the College.
