16/04/2010 LORETO COLLEGE STUDENTS UNDERTAKE BRONZE AWARD EXPEDITION

On Thursday 15th April, a group of Year 11 students from Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, set off for the hills beyond Ballycastle to undertake their Bronze level expedition as part of the Duke of Edinburgh/Presidentís Award scheme.

The group set off in fine, if cold, weather anticipating two days of hiking and two nights of camping. Accompanied by Mr Michael James, Vice Principal, and teachers Mrs Sheila McBroom and Mrs Claire McConnell, the group members were excited on their departure about the challenge and adventure which lay ahead.† The students have been working hard throughout the year on the many components of the dual-accredited Award scheme: skills based, community based and fitness based activities have kept the group busy throughout the first two terms of the school year.

Mr Brian Lenehan, Principal of Loreto College, wished the group well for a safe and enjoyable expedition, and commended them for the great commitment they have demonstrated through their participation in the scheme this year.
