Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week) in Loreto College proved most enjoyable, as always. Pupils enjoyed a week of activities and entertainment and the fact that all Irish books were left at home for the week only added to the joy.

The week’s entertainment began on Monday morning with all Year Eight pupils singing heartily in the annual European Day sing song. If only every Monday morning started this way!

Year Eight and Nine pupils were invited to compete in a photographic competition entitled ‘Éire trí mo shúile’, (Ireland through my eyes), and some fabulous entries were received.

On Tuesday, the Irish department’s annual Mass was held in the convent chapel. Officiated by an tAthair Ó Croiligh, pupils were treated to an intriguing homily of pictures, beautiful singing and enchanting instrumental music.

Other activities during the week included enthusiastic sing songs, imaginative roleplays and tricky quizzes. Seachtain na Gaeilge culminated in two céilithe; with Mrs Close as Bean an Tí, a hoarde of prizes were distributed for entertaining, skillful and original dancing.

All in all, Seachtain na Gaeilge proved enjoyable as always. Bean Uí Mhianáin and Bean Uí Mhaoláin wish to say ‘Go raibh maith agaibh’ to all pupils and staff who participated and assisted in any way.
