09/02/2010 LORETO COLLEGE COPE GROUP BUSY HELPING OTHERS

A group of Year 13 students from Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, has been busy with a number of initiatives to help others so far this year.

The students, who are completing the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (COPE), meet weekly under the leadership of teacher Mrs Meabh McGreevy. Before Christmas, the students took part in an Advent Appeal for Children in Crossfire, raising a total of 314 at a very busy time of year.

Following the February Mid Term break, the students will undertake a ten-week course in British Sign Language, which will be run by a deaf tutor who works with the charity Hands That Talk. Speaking on behalf of the group, Mrs Meabh McGreevy commented that the students were greatly looking forward to the challenge of learning a new skill, and hoped that this would give them opportunities to work with the deaf community in the future.
