A group of Junior students from Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, raised an impressive sum of money for Loreto sisters working in India recently, through the design and marketing of Christmas cards just before the Christmas holidays.

Six students, Mark Gormley and Sorcha O’Hara (Year 10), Rebecca McKillen, Payton Mullan and Caitlin Richardson (Year 9) and Yasmin Parahoo (Year 8) produced the winning designs from an impressive field of entries from throughout Years 8-10: with all junior pupils having been invited to submit designs, the top six were selected from a very interesting entry by Art & Design teachers Mr Paul Cunning and Miss Michelle McGarvey.

Almost £300 was raised through card sales, which has been donated to Sr Cyril, a Loreto sister who works with street children in India. Those who purchased and received the cards were highly impressed by the quality of the design.

Mr Paul Cunning, Head of Art & Design at Loreto College, paid tribute to the young designers and to Miss Lynda Stewart, Office Manager, who looked after the printing of the cards.
