07/01/2010 LORETO COLLEGE STUDENTS CELEBRATE OXBRIDGE SUCCESS

Two final year students at Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, have begun the new year on a high note, celebrating offers of places to read Law at Oxford and Cambridge.  The students, Andrew Crozier and Aoife McGrath, were awarded their offers following a daunting procedure of interviews and aptitude tests towards the end of the Autumn Term.

Aoife McGrath, who is Head Girl at Loreto College, has been offered a place at Clare College Cambridge to read Law.  Aoife is currently studying Biology, Chemistry, English Literature and Geography at A2 level, and has had an outstanding academic reputation throughout her time at the school – including gaining one of the two highest marks in the UK in the OCR GCSE English examination in 2008.  An accomplished musician, Aoife has also contributed generously to the extra-curricular life of the College, in particular to the sixth form Social Justice group and the School Magazine editorial committee, as well as participating in the Duke of Edinburgh and President’s Award Scheme and the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness qualification.

Andrew Crozier, meanwhile, who is Deputy Head Boy at Loreto College, has been offered a place at Lincoln College Oxford to read Law.  Andrew is studying Chemistry, Economics, English Language and History at A2 level, and has likewise enjoyed exceptional academic success throughout his time at Loreto. Andrew was a member of the team from Loreto which won the prestigious UK-wide IFS Student Investor Challenge competition last year.  In addition to this, he has contributed generously of his time to the College’s Social Justice group and School Magazine Editorial Committee, as well as playing guitar at a variety of school liturgical and musical functions.

Both Andrew and Aoife are exceptionally talented and hard-working students with the brightest of futures ahead of them: they celebrate this success in a year when both Oxford and Cambridge attracted record numbers of applications.  Aoife and Andrew were congratulated on their outstanding achievement by Mr Brian Lenehan, Principal of Loreto College, on behalf of all the staff and students of the school.
