17/12/2009 LORETO COLLEGE DONATE CHALK TO ROCK MINISTRIES CHOIR

The Social Justice Group from Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, made a donation of chalk to the Mwamba African Children’s Choir in early December, through collaboration with the Rock Ministries.

The Rock Ministries was founded by a local couple, Phyllis and Ian Hasson, and was represented on a visit to Loreto College by Naomi Laird. The Mwamba Children's Choir, which is made up of mainly orphaned children, was represented by David, Pius and Ronald, who were presented with the chalk to take back to their schools by Naomi Lynch and Paraic Rafferty of the Loreto College Social Justice Group.  The Mwamba Choir has spent approximately eleven weeks in Northern Ireland, singing in local schools and churches, and the boys were invited to Loreto by Mrs Maxine West, a Learning Assistant at the College.

The members of the Social Justice Group, along with their co-ordinator Mrs Lorraine McCool, were inspired by their meeting with David, Pius and Ronald and were delighted to have the opportunity to make such a simple, meaningful contribution towards their learning.
