02/10/2009 CAROUSEL COMING SOON TO LORETO COLLEGE

The well-known musical Carousel will be staged in Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, for a four-night run later this month.

Opening on Tuesday 13th October, with the run lasting until Friday 16th October, Carousel features a cast of some 120 students, drawn from throughout the College’s Junior and Senior classes.

Set in New England in 1873, Carousel is a story of love and loss, joy and tragedy, catastrophe and redemption.  The show contains well-known songs such as June is Bursting Out All Over and You’ll Never Walk Alone: a thought-provoking show, it has its moments of darkness and light and proves in turn moving and uplifting.

Directed by Mrs Oonah McEwan, Head of Drama and Theatre Studies at Loreto College, alongside Musical Director Mr Howard Gillespie, Carousel features a strong cast.  The lead parts are played by final year students Conor O’Kane and Elizabeth Lane, both of whom, in rehearsal, are already delivering performances of impressive conviction: as talented singers and actors of great magnetism, Conor and Elizabeth are equal to the challenges of this taxing show.  The supporting cast is no less convincing: among them, there is much to anticipate from Claire Hill, Rachael Gaile, Kevin O’Kane, Megan Cunning, Naoise Scally, Fiona Carlin and the Levy brothers: Ben and Lucas. The ensemble cast is impressive too, with a great deal of accomplishment on display from the Chorus.

Tickets for Carousel are selling fast: the box office is open during the College’s working hours, and may be contacted on 028 70343611.  Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy a wonderful night’s theatre!
