23/04/2009 ARTISTIC SUCCESS STORY FOR LORETO COLLEGE STUDENT

A pupil from Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, has been shortlisted for a top prize in this yearís Salvador Dali inspired Ulster In Bloom Art Competition.

John McLister has been shortlisted in the Year 10 section of the competition, for a piece of artwork which reinterpreted the human face from a surrealist angle.

The theme of this yearís competition centred around one of the founding fathers of the surrealist movement, Salvador Dali, and invited students to be inspired by dream-like landscapes, optical illusions and futuristic landscapes, playing on the idea that things are not always as they seem.

All twenty-one short listed artworks will soon be available to view on Translinkís website and will be on display at Translinkís Central Station over coming weeks.

Johnís will find out whether he has won the top award at a Prizegiving ceremony later this month. In the meantime, John and his teacher, Mr Paul Cunning, Head of Art and Design at Loreto, were congratulated on this impressive achievement by Mr Brian Lenehan, Principal of Loreto College.
