03/04/2009 LORETO COLLEGE YEAR 11 STUDENTS “LEARN TO EARN”

All Year 11 students at Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, took part in a half-day Careers workshop on Wednesday 1st April 2009.

Entitled “Learn to Earn” and administered by Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, the workshop aims to demonstrate how achievement in learning can lead to success in earning.  The workshop brought the students into contact with business volunteers who helped them to understand the link between their education and their future success and happiness in work and life.

Taking the form of a number of activity-based sessions, the workshop introduced concepts of success, achievement and independence in a work context.   In the course of the event, the students were also able to explore career choices and links between different careers and the level of educational attainment required.  The event was also useful in contributing to the development of the students’ financial capability.

Miss Maria Flannelly, Head of Careers at Loreto College, commented that the workshop had been a very rewarding and informative experience for all the students, in helping them to see their studies in the context of their future employment, contribution to society and earning potential.
