The corridors of Loreto College Coleraine have been echoing to the sounds of “Oh what a beautiful morning” and “The farmer and the cowman shall be friends” in recent weeks as the final rehearsals take place for the Castlerock Road school’s production of the Rogers and Hammerstein favourite, “Oklahoma!”

Opening on Tuesday 7th October, the production runs for four nights in the College Hall, with a large ensemble cast, lively music and colourful costumes. Directed by Mrs Oonah McEwan, with the assistance of Musical Director Mr Howard Gillespie and Choreographer Mrs Vanessa Redpath, the performances will have much to offer to audiences: well known songs, dramatic tension, romance, laughter – not to mention lively chorus numbers and dance sequences.

Lead roles in the musical will be taken by a number of senior Loreto students who are already well-known in and out of school for their acting and singing talents: Niamh O’Kane (Laurey), Ryan Hasson (Curley), Maeve Diamond (Ado Annie), Conor McReynolds (Jud Fry), Nora Duncan (Aunt Eller), Conor Molloy (Will Parker), Stephen McGonigle (Ali Hakim) and Helen Broughton (Gertie). The principal dancing parts will be taken with aplomb and grace by Charlotte McAfee and Owen Fisher. The chorus – so numerous that the College’s stage has had to be specially extended for the production – is drawn from throughout the Junior and Senior school, representing the great musical and dramatic talent on offer, as well as the tremendous enthusiasm for the production within the school.

The Loreto production of “Oklahoma!” looks like being the success of the Autumn Term for the school. For those wishing to avail of the opportunity of seeing this unmissable show, some tickets are still available from the College Office.
