22/01/2009 SUCCESS FOR LORETO COLLEGE IN PHYSICS COMPETITION

A team from Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, took first place in the Junior section of the Physics At Home competition, which was held in Queen’s University Belfast on Wednesday 21st January 2009.

Team members Caoimhe Bond, Mary Kate Mackle, Margaret Mooney and Marie Reynolds (all Year 11) gave an impressive presentation on the Physics of Sound at the event, taking first place in a field of talented students from throughout Northern Ireland.  The team-members each won a digital camera as part of their prize.  The competition sees secondary school Physics students demonstrate a physical principle to a non-scientist, using only basic equipment available at home. The event is open to year 11- 14 students.

The students and their teacher, Head of Physics Mrs Maeve Close, were congratulated on this impressive achievement by Mr Brian Lenehan, Principal of Loreto College, on behalf of all the staff and students of the college.
