The re-opening of the Loreto College School Bank
13/10/2008 SCHOOL BANK RE-OPENS AT LORETO COLLEGE

The Northern Bank re-opened for business at Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, on Monday 13th October 2008.

Offering current accounts, savings accounts and e-banking facilities to students, the School Bank opened initially in April 2008, and was formally re-opened for students in October.  Present at the opening were Mark Church (Manager), Robert McLaughlin, Alison Mackey and Judith Hodgen and of the Northern Bank, Coleraine.

The School Bank also offers an opportunity for senior students to engage with the work involved with the staffing of a bank: Loreto College students Claire Butcher, Aine Quigg and Edel Russell (Year 13), along with Eamonn Cassidy, Ciara Christie and Gemma Black (Year 12) will have some responsibility for the everyday running and promotion of the bank facility to students.

Economics teacher Mrs Attracta O’Harte, who co-ordinates the bank on behalf of Loreto College, commented that it represented a useful opportunity for students to employ life skills and to learn about the relevance of their studies to the world of work and finance.  Mr Brian Lenehan, Principal of Loreto College, commended the work of the School Bank staff and student staff, and thanked the representatives of the Northern Bank for their input and expertise in making such a worthwhile facility available to students.
