28/05/2008 LORETO STUDENTS STAR IN NEBSSA ATHLETICS FINALS

Seventeen students from Loreto College, Specialist School, qualified for the 2008 NEBSSA Athletics Finals, held in the Antrim Forum on 27th May 2008.  To reach the finals, all these students had excelled in local heats and had been training hard after school each week.

All seventeen represented Loreto with distinction on the day, and the team returned home with four individual medals following some superb performances by three students in particular.  Eilis McNamee (Y8) took Gold in the U12 Girls’ 100 metres and Bronze in the U12 Girls’ 200m.  Anna Breslin (Y10) took Silver in the U15 Girls’ 1500m, despite being one of the younger competitors in the age-group, and seasoned competitor Emma Doherty (Y11) took Silver in the U15 Long Jump event.  The other students who represented Loreto on the day were: Claire Hill, Megan Kerr, Edward Lane, Katy Lemon, Morgan Little, Alice Magee, Rosanna McAleese, Danielle McKeefry, Shannon Mullan, Anna Neilis, Cristin O’Kane, Justyna Pajak, Gemma Reid and Tara Stewart.

All the students who took part, along with Head of PE Mrs Maureen McCullough, were congratulated on their enthusiasm, hard work and successful participation by Mr Brian Lenehan, College Principal.
