Coleraine Football Club's 'Teenage Hero'

It has been an exciting few months for Stephen Dooley, a student at Loreto College Coleraine, Specialist School, who has been hailed the new “teenage hero” of Coleraine Football Club.

An apprenticeship of Junior and Schools’ soccer reached its fruition when Stephen came off the bench in the semi-final of the Irish Cup competition at the end of March, and scored the goal which saved Coleraine from defeat at the hands of Donegal Celtic, winning his team a reprieve in the shape of a replay.  As if this were not enough, Stephen went on to score again in the replay fixture a few days later, helping Coleraine to the showpiece fixture against Linfield, to be played in Windsor Park on Saturday 3rd May.  Local hero status ensued, with Stephen fielding interviews on television, local radio and in the press.

Remaining modest about his success, Stephen describes his recent run of match stardom as “a dream come true”, and is excited at the possibility that he might be able to be a part of the Irish Cup Final.  In the meantime, his feet remain firmly on the ground as he prepares for a totally different challenge: his GCSE examinations, another challenge in the weeks ahead.

Speaking on behalf of all the staff and students of Loreto College, Mr Brian Lenehan, College Principal, congratulated Stephen on his achievements on the pitch so far, and wished him well for the fixtures still to come.  Clearly this talented, dedicated young sportsman is one to watch!
