10/03/2008 FRENCH STUDENTS VISIT LORETO COLLEGE

A group of 23 students from the College Bon Accueil, Toulon, spent a week in the Coleraine area recently as the guests of Loreto College Coleraine.

The students and their teachers were the first to visit Loreto College, which has just established a new exchange link with the school.  During their stay, the French teenagers, in addition to spending time with their host partners and their families, had the opportunity to sample everyday life at Loreto College.  Their time at the school included a sample of lessons as well as team-building activities and a chance to try out a traditional Irish céili.

The French students also had the opportunity to explore some of the local area.  Trips arranged for the group included a visit to Derry, which involved a tour of the historic City Walls and the Tower Museum as well as some shopping; a trip to the world-famous Giant’s Causeway, and a day at the Odyssey Centre in Belfast.    The party was also welcomed formally to the Coleraine area with a special reception by the Mayor of Coleraine at the Council Chambers.

The students and their teachers were welcomed to Loreto by Mr Brian Lenehan, College Principal, who paid tribute to the organising teachers, Mr Peter Loughran and Mrs Anne McCambridge, for their efforts in ensuring that the French visitors enjoyed an educational and enjoyable visit to the area.
