Matthew McGowan, with Loreto College Principal Mr M James

Loreto College student Matthew McGowan (Year 13) was nominated for the 2019 British Education Awards.  Matthew was selected based on his outstanding academic results and his strong commitment to the extra-curricular  life of the school. He achieved 10A* in his GCSE and is a former cricket team player, Scouts member and Duke of Edinburgh Award recipient.  Matthew is an associate of the Justice League Group, participant in the Pope John Paul II Award, participant in the UK Maths Challenge (UKMT) and a participant in school debate club. He has a very close connections to the school, is equally respected by staff and peers and embodies our ethos of ‘Spirituality and Excellence’  in all that he does.

BEA is a unique event where young people, their families and teachers, along with politicians, professionals and celebrities from across the UK come together to celebrate educational attainment.

Matthew and his guest attended the British Education Awards ceremony on Thursday 30th January 2020, at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated Matthew on this wonderful achievement.
