01/02/2019 DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY SUCCESS FOR LORETO COLLEGE RUNNERS

A group of cross country runners represented Loreto College at the District Cross Country event held at Thornhill College, Derry in extremely wintry conditions on 31st January.  One Year 9 pupil remarked that it was colder than Bulgaria but that they were in running gear not in ski wear!

All runners ran to the best of their ability and although there were very tough competitions as well as being snowy underfoot, six individual runners from Loreto qualified for the Ulster Championships, as well as one team: congratulations to them all on a wonderful achievement.  They will now be running at the Ulster championships in a few weeks’ time.

Connie McBride  Mini U13
Niamh McGarry  Junior U15 and placed third.
Cara McLaughlin  Intermediate U17
Cormac Carr  Intermediate U17
Niamh Carr  Senior U19 and placed 1st
Tiernan Boylan  Senior U19

The Intermediate team were placed third and this included Cara McLaughlin, Lauren Thom, Lucy O’ Kane and Orla Cunningham (all Year 11).

Mrs McBroom paid tribute to all the students and to Ms K Mitchel and Mr P Byrne who had helped out on the day.
