29/11/2018 NEBSSA YEAR 9 NETBALL TOURNAMENT HOSTED IN LORETO COLLEGE

The annual NEBSSA Year 9 Netball tournament was hosted by Loreto College on Wednesday 28th November.  Ten schools, and eleven teams took part:  Ballyclare Secondary, St Louis’ GS Ballymena, Slemish Integrated College, Dominican College Portstewart, Coleraine College, St Mary’s GS Magherafelt, Cross & Passion College Ballycastle, Dalriada School, North Coast Integrated College and two teams from Loreto College.

The standard of netball played was high with matches drawn or won by a small margin.  All teams played a minimum of four matches, both in the Sports and Assembly Halls.  The winners of Section A, Dominican played the runners up of Section B, Dalriada in the first Semi Final, with Dominican coming out on top; whilst the two Loreto teams battled for the other place in the final, with the Yellows coming out on top of the Blues.  All matches were very competitive and exciting to the final whistle.  In the Final, Dominican defeated Loreto Yellows by one goal after an end to end game with many nerves evident!

Mrs McCullough, Head of PE at Loreto, who organised the day, congratulated all staff and pupils who displayed great team spirit and sportsmanship, and thanked all teachers who umpired and brought their teams, special thanks to Ms Wilson, Miss Scally and the Sports Captains who helped with time keeping, preparations and cleaning up afterwards.
