21/11/2018 SUCCESS FOR LORETO COLLEGE STUDENTS AT NEBSSA CROSS COUNTRY EVENT

On Tuesday 20th November, thirty Loreto College students from Years 8-11 took part in the NEBSSA Cross Country event, held at the Ulster University, Coleraine.  The event involved running either one or two laps around the University grounds, in dry, cold conditions and with the ground remarkably intact after recent rains.

Although the Year 8 and 9 students ran very well, unfortunately none won any medals.  Year 10 student Niamh McGarry led the field from the very beginning and increased her lead to achieve a very comfortable first place.  She was incredibly at ease running at this pace.  The success continued with the Year 11 girls team of  Alana Burns, Maria Carr, Orla Cunningham, Cara McLaughlin, Sophie Moore, Lucy O’Kane and Lauren Thom achieving second place overall, while Cormac Carr ran a brilliant race to achieve a Bronze medal in the Year 11 Boys’ race.

Loreto College Cross Country coach Mrs Sheila McBroom and Head of PE Mrs Maureen McCullough were delighted with these results.  The preparation is now on for the District Championships in January.
